St. Petersburg State University (SPbSU), in collaboration with the companies "Lartekh" and "Energomera," introduced the world's first electricity meter integrated with artificial intelligence, aimed at combating illegal cryptocurrency mining. The meter analyzes energy consumption in real-time, detecting anomalies characteristic of crypto mining operations. The AI system not only records data but also helps energy companies identify and prevent abuses swiftly.

This development addresses the issue of illegal mining, which creates excessive strain on power grids and can lead to power supply interruptions and losses for energy suppliers. The meter also features an anti-fraud system that analyzes data from smart meters, detecting illegal connections and energy theft【55†source】【56†source】.
